Can I give less than one star? We've been with Berti for at least 10 years. 110 heat index, and our ac quit working. Two people with heart conditions at this residence. The woman who answered the phone, )not Jessica who has always been extremely friendly, and helpful) was rude didn't care nobody could come for a week. NO EXCEPTIONS! She didn't really care, and she let it show.

She kept saying this is their busiest time of year, other people had their AC's quit also. Totally didn't care that there were people, and animals who can't handle the heat, she offered no remedy except waiting a week. Before anybody says you shouldn't have moved to Florida. We've been here several generations, and know what the heat is like, and how badly people need AC here. Too bad birdie doesn't.

Service in 02/16/2022, after not hearing from tech I called my husband to ask if he said anything about the issue with the heat. His reply was no, but I'll give him the phone. Was told I had dust on my sensor. I then asked about a thermostat as mine was the programmable type with the hold button etc. the tech stated I think I have one on my truck.

The next call I got was for payment. The total was 668.00. $95. Diagnostic fee, $225 sensor, $ 338 thermostat ( what?) wait he stated he called the office to verify price. I never authorized a $338 thermostat had my grand daughter send me a picture it was a cheap non programmable standard device. I called Bertie and spoke with Brenda whom immediately got annoyed but fought to contain her attitude.

She claimed she needed to check the invoice and call me back on the 17th the next mornin. 11:20 AM on the 17th as I'm typing a complaint to BBB I decided to give them a call because it was clear she wasn't going to. I was given the famous she is in a meeting. Completed my claim with BBB as well as other agencies on fraudulent business practice.

Next step is Small Claims Court. It's not even about the $$ it's about the deceptive practices. The thermostat I was charged $338.00 for can be purchased on Amazon for $46.97 - so that means they are marking their materials up almost 8 times the cost. I never authorized the switch and the tech should have phoned me to give me details before making the switch.

I was a licensed journeyman HVAC tech there many years ago. Bertie wouldn't allow me to slow down long enough to take a lunch break. Jim Bertie advised me to eat while driving to the next service call. Greediest contractor I have ever met in my 25 years in the industry. Worst micro-management that I have ever seen. This was 25 years ago. Hopefully the techs are treated better today.

Great job installing a new boiler in my house this past January. Price was competitive with other installers and the installation was professionally done.

I recently had central air installed after receiving a quote from two other companies we decided to go with McClaren. All of the staff from Gary who initially came out to give the quote, Artie who walked use through the job, to Sean who came by within a few hours the following week when I couldn't figure out if things were working ok were all super personable, professional and knowledgeable.

As a female I find sometimes tradesmen who come to do a job don't take the time to explain things/in depth because well, female. With this team I feel all my questions were answered and then some. It's nice to have a great experience and feel satisfied with the job that was done. Hopefully will have them back again soon for a water heater replacement!

Great service! Frank arrived, diagnosed my a/c problem, had the part on the truck & fixed my system in record time. He also took the time to explain what he'd done as well as make sure that the system was functioning correctly. Can't say enough; wonderful experience!

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! Bertie AC charged our family $5,178 for a consultation that we decided to cancel before anything was done. Got notified that the cancellation went through in writing, but we were still charged the very next day and they only refunded this amount after we got the bill a month later. They reversed the scam charge only after bringing it up first and providing documentation.

Do not use this company for AC repair they will scam you. You have been warned! Their technician also messed up the wiring which caused our AC unit to stop working. We got a family friend who works in HVAC and he quickly pointed this out, fixed it completely explaining the real issue, and our unit works today regardless of its age. Our family will never use Bertie AC again!

They lost our business forever! They can keep that $500 for the hard start kit replacement where they tried to sabotage our AC unit since that faulty repair lasted only a day coming up with excuses while rushing to replace it with a 10K unit which was even worse. Do your research please! AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

I don't have time to list all the reason I like this company but let me just list a few details of the project. My second floor steam system died after 23 years. I spent 6 months talking to at least 20 different companies. My opinion of this industry went down with every meeting. I wanted to improve my heating cost and simplify my system. (I had one for each floor.

After getting 4 estimates I went one by through each company and found that only one gave me an accurate estimate. The others were off by over $10,000! Only one listened to what I was asking for and he was very high. Finally when I gave up and was resigned to putting back in a new steam unit, I met Art. He asked me a lot of questions and then came back with a suggestion that actually met all my needs.

I now have a super efficient heat pump system in my 2nd floor that cost a little more than the steam boiler but is more efficient, meets my goal of no fossil fuel and added air conditioning. It was installed in a few weeks (it was November when I first met him) and we love it. Very little disruption of our home and his guys were all very nice and I couldn't be happier. P.S. I get to take out all those old radiators and add space in every room.

Good service. They replaced the interior fan motor on the AC unit. They charged $100 for the ten minutes it took to tell me the interior fan motor wasn't working (kind of obvious since it was the only part that didn't come on.) My coworkers assured me the $100 diagnosis charge would be credited to the part replacement. Nope, not with Bertie. Silly coworkers, maybe that is just a mythical industry standard.

The motor was upwards $900 and the one hour of labor (including the time it took to retrieve a "special wrench") was upwards of $500. It happened in spring, so I was afraid to spend too much time getting estimates. Maybe $500 for an hour of labor is an average cost for the replacment of the interior fan of a (3.5 ton?) unit (small house), but it strikes me as extortion.

The repairman was very professional, reputable in appearance and behavior, so I guess that's something. When the unit inevitably dies, their name won't be the first one on my lips.

We've been attempting to contact McClaren Heating & Air Conditioning to schedule a project. McClaren originally installed a mini split unit on our home when it was under previous ownership. We called McClaren to ask for their help with new line set covers for the system and to remove the condenser for some house work we're doing that requires access behind the condenser.

A project the owner Arty, said would be fairly simple to accomplish. Arty even originally came out and said it wouldn't be a problem to accommodate, but to give them a week's notice so they could schedule the work. It's been two weeks of consistent follow up and we have yet to hear back regarding scheduling. The receptionist has been unhelpful at best and rude at worst.

She did let me know Arty couldn't return our call last Friday because he was enjoying the day on his boat. If you're looking for a company that actually cares about servicing its customers, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Good experience overall. Came out to my place and fixed up my ac all in the same day. All of the staff that I spoke to was courteous and professional. Would definitely recommend if you want fast and reliable service. Not the most competitive prices out there but they were not overly expensive either.

First time customer, and what a pleasure it was. Scheduled a AC/Heat pump tune-up for the season. Service tech Adi D called, to see if he could come earlier. Arrived at my residence and identified himself. Went to work, and was very curtious and polite. Kept me informed on what was going on, and how my unit was functioning. I am completely satisfied with his work, and probably will become a new customer. Thanking you in advance.

I don't understand all of the negative reviews. My family has been using Edgerton since 1988. We are completely satisfied customers and have been treated with nothing but respect. Recently, I called because I was selling my father's home and the furnace needed service. They knew I was only in town for a few days and came right out. I will let all my family and friends in the area know that Edgerton is a reliable company. It's unfortunate when people judge a one time miscommunication.

The technician arrived within the two hour window. He was pleasant and professional. He explained exactly what he was doing and taught me how to use the new thermostat. He did a thorough maintenance gave me pointers on how to keep the system running smoothly. This was an all around positive experience. Great job Richie!

The owner is very HANDS on and I like that, the one thing I would suggest to people is to define in great detail what you are buying warranties for. I would also strongly advise against tankless water heaters, we are over 700$ in maintenance costs and it seems as though we are going to be spending a few more 100, if not more since it is leaking ( 4 yrs new, 1 of most efficient snd best on market lasts under 5 yrs? ), and if you look online that is almost impossible since they dont hold water, but half a bucket says otherwise, I was 100% under the impression it was covered under warranty but apparently it's not and just to have someone look at it will be 100s of dollars. GREAT FOR LONG SHOWERS FOR FAMILY ( ALSO MEANS HIGHER GAS BILL ) 200$ EVERY 6 MONTHS OR SO! Heating system except for balancing issues every few months is still good and same with A/C.

We wanted to have a maintenance check on our Carrier heating system it was running ok but with the colder temps we wanted to make sure it was in good running condition, Derek and Mike came out they replaced the filters and battery for the thermostat and also vacuumed the inside of the unit. They did a CO check and reminded me to get CO detectors. Since we just moved in I didn't even think of them. Mike even showed me the best placement for them.

They came out on time and actually called a half hour before they were going to be here it took @ 45 minutes and cost $172.00 dollars we felt it was worth the cost. They were very personable & actually showed me how to open the vents for better air flow.

My float switch in/on air exchanger was tripped so I call Bertie back in April, 2018, Bertie came out and they reset the switch and cleared the condensate line, they charged me a maintenance fee which I paid, so fast forward to now in Nov I was having same problem, the float switch tripped but this time I reset it it but I had Bertie come back because it was apparent it wasn't fixed in April, this time he cleared the drain pan and they still have the guile to charge me 220 dollars.

Extremely unhappy! Not to mention, this system is only a couple of years old bought and installed by Bertie for over 6 THOUSAND DOLLARS and they treat their good customers this way? Total RIP OFF!

Pretty surprised by the negative reviews. We had them in to fix our hydro-air system. The system is always a problem and getting someone to fix it is challenging. We called Edgerton, they came when they said they would, the man knew exactly what was wrong and fixed it less than 5 minutes. Then I asked him a series of questions about how we could avoid the problem in the future.

He was thorough, friendly and most important knowledgeable. Wow they have one happy customer. As a reference point one company we had in told us the system was set up wrong and would cost $2k to fix - the system is not set up wrong - it was a simple fix.

Got flipped off by one of their drivers today. So unprofessional even though he was the one making the illegal turn. Can't imagine how unprofessional they would be if I went to their store.

Allow me to add my voice to the chorus of negative reviews these folks have. I was renting an apartment and the tenant called them to fix the AC. I was surprised at how high the bill was and was somewhat concerned that as an absentee landlord perhaps they felt they could charge what they wanted and I wouldn't know any better. Less than eight months later, after barely a month's use the preceding season, the AC again failed to function.

I left a message with their answering service over the weekend and it was not returned. It took several phone calls to get the appointment set up because they were not very responsive and appeared to have lose track of my request. The serviceman who eventually did show up seemed lackadaisical and disinterested but after poking around for a few minutes announced that a major part was going to need replacing.

I asked him several questions and he was not in the slightest bit helpful if not downright evasive. I requested an estimate of what the work would cost before I would make an appointment for the work to be done. Guess what? They never sent me said estimate. Apparently the thought of being open and honest about how much a job was going to cost was too much for them to handle. However, they did send me a sizeable bill for the "diagnosis" that I had no confidence in whatsoever. I am sorry my tenant called these people the first time and sorrier that I went back to them now. I am taking my business elsewhere and I suggest you do the same.

We have used a few AC companies over the years since our install in 2002 but we knew of McClaren as they are a local company and we heard good things about them over the years. We started with a diagnosis of our AC system in 2017 and owner Artie laid out options for us that included a zero interest option through Mass Save for ultra efficient systems.

Our system didn't qualify due to a few factors. Artie made the trip out to our home to ensure the quote was accurate before the job stated. We decided to go with McClaren by paying half up front as deposit and then the other half when they finished their work and we were satisfied. Chris and Pat showed up a bit early at our request and they were very thorough. Chris made the effort to make sure we had a new condenser pad when he could have used the existing one but it looks real nice.

He also pressure tested our system and detected a slight pressure issue so he installed brand new AC piping which really shows the quality of their work. Artie was very good at communicating and getting back to us quickly so with all this, I highly recommend Artie McClaren.

Jeremiah came out and gave me a quote and was there at the time he said he would be and had great communication throughout the entire quote process. He also worked very hard to get an install date in the time frame that I needed. Though I didn't end up getting the work done by them, I would definitely call them again, if I have a need in the future.

I RANKED THIS 5 STARS NOT SURE WHY IT SHOWS 3 Artie iss great and his team works tgo make you happy, we received a call recently to see how we are and it made me realise what a good choice worfking with this company, due to some redesign we are going to have thedm come back and zoned the system out to get a be that mix upstairs and Downstairs and they are being very fair for havingv to come back to zone the system into 2 separate zones 5 starsx all day long thanks guys.

Will keep updated after t he zoning is complete. I have now had a few issues and have had to pay for all fixes., I bought warranties and maint plan and can't get an answer on what is covered or if I just paid 1100$ for them to register the warranties and if that's the case I want my money back. Hoping to get answers, Thank you John Pesente Jpesente2018@gmail.com

Yesterday I had an appointment scheduled between 9 and 11. At 11:15 I called to find out if I was going to see a serviceman. I was told that he was on another call and was rescheduled for today between 9 and 11. At 11:15 I called again to find out if I was going to see a serviceman and was told that he would be here soon! What is the point of scheduling a time frame if it is not kept and no one calls to keep the customer informed of any delay. I understand emergency calls but can not see any reason for not being updated in a timely fashion. My time is just as valuable as Edgertons!

We won't be using McClaren again. Sean, the technician, was incredibly rude and made me feel very uncomfortable - borderline unsafe. I didn't like this technician last year and I certainly didn't like having him in my home this year. I'm not sure why I didn't act on my instincts and find another company last time. I won't be making that mistake again.

He seemed to go out of his way to make me feel stupid for the questions I asked and then didn't even bother to actually answer the questions with anything more extensive than 'Yeah' or 'No'. Since our furnace continues to work I'm willing to give McClaren a 3 for the work quality: not great, but not bad, average. I would recommend you find someone else to work with.

We have used Bertie for years. We bought a new a/c unit and handler in the past 2 years. Up to now they have been good until yesterday. They came out to our rental to check on our old Trane unit, as the tenants stated the unit would not maintain "72 degrees" and it was blowing coldest air in the living room not so much in the bedrooms. I had Bertie check the unit in October and it was working great.

The repairman sent out on the call went to the backyard and opened the unit. He removed 3 compositors of various sizes. He told me they were all bad, and he could replace each one from $125.00 to $150.00. I wrote down the model # of each unit and told him I would look to replace them on the internet. He then said each one online would cost $30 to $40. (Later my husband told me the unit would not run if all the compositors were bad).

He told me my a/c unit was shot and that I needed a new one for around $ 5,500.00 and up. All this being told to me in front of my tenants. My tenants called me when they arrived home from work and said the a/c unit would not turn on. This morning I called Bertie A/C and explained the problem. The woman was rude and told me their serviceman did nothing wrong and I had to replace the unit. All that for a $95.00 service call. Well, when I buy a new unit, I will NOT BE BUYING FROM THEM.

This is a wholesale only parts store, meaning you need to be a licensed air conditioning contractor or an employee of a licensed air conditioning contractor to purchase here. They will however, give you a name or two of quality contractors they deal with!

I had air conditioner and heating units installed in my home 3 months ago by bertie. The installation went well, however, the reason I went with them was because they offered a $900 rebate and when 2 months elapsed and we had not recieved it, we called to inquire. The first time we called we reached Valerie Bertie. She promised to look into it and call back.

She never did. We called back again, and were told she was on another line and would call back. She didn't and when we called her, we were told she left for the day. This happened a couple more times before we threatened to file a claim in court. She still never contacted us. I then had to contact the Trane company to find out what was going on.

They told me the "clearing house" had never recieved the rebate information. So I called Bertie again to get answers. Crissy Bertie answered the phone and seemed quite annoyed when I told her who I was, she put me on hold for a minute, came back, and proceeded to rapidly tell me that the rebate had been filed with the Trane rep. I asked her what the Trane reps phone number was so I could ask him about the status and she told me all she had was a home number and couldn't give it to me.

I asked if he had an office number and she said she didn't know it. I was very disturbed by her tone and told her she was being rude to me to which she replied "no I'm not", she then hung up on me. I then fired off an email to Trane, and the rep called me the next day and told me about a "computer glitch". In short, I have never been treated so poorly by a local business in my life - especially considering the we spent several thousand dollars with them. I absolutely shudder to think of what will happen if we need warranty work done.
